OUR MUSICAL JOURNEY SINCE 1977
Bernie studied music to the year 12 level then studied banking and accounting, and concluded with a diploma in market. He is a CPM (Certified Practicing Marketer) with the Australian Marketing Institute. Bernie worked in music retail management in the city before opening his own store in Airport West in October 1977, with the help of his wife and extended family. The store had a modest range of pianos and organs, setting the blueprint for Bernies Music Land today.
Over the following years, Bernies Music Land grew to 11 stores with 5 music schools. The stores were spread throughout Melbourne and also in Victorian country towns. In the 1980s 1990s technology introduced many of the luxuries that we have in our homes today. There were massive changes in the functions and capacity of musical instruments and this was an exciting time for the music industry. Bernies Music Land had a full range of general musical instruments and accessories, with a large staff and teaching team.
In the late 1980s, there were many challenges in the business environment in Australia. Fortunately, with the immense efforts of Bernie and his staff, the company survived the adversities. The current store at Ringwood was purchased in 1990 and Bernies Music Land re-introduced itself once again as a piano, organ and digital keyboard specialist.
